- Budget Planning for Your Wedding: 10 Tips Every Couple Needs to Know
Wedding planning should feel exciting—not financially draining. But let’s be real, between Pinterest boards and TikTok inspo, it’s easy for your dream day to turn into a budgeting nightmare. At Next Chapter Weddings, we believe your celebration should reflect your love—not your stress level. That’s why we’re breaking down wedding budget planning into real, honest steps that actually work. Whether you’re spending $10,000 or $100,000, this wedding planning budget checklist will help you stay on track, prioritize what matters most, and keep a little breathing room in the bank. 1. Prioritize What Matters Most Not everything needs to be a big-ticket item. Sit down with your partner and rank what matters most—maybe that’s food, photography, and the venue. Once you have your top 3, allocate a bigger chunk of your budget there and be more flexible with the rest. Pro tip: Most couples regret cutting corners on photo and video. These are your memories—invest wisely. 2. Trim the Guest List It’s the easiest way to cut costs—because every guest means more chairs, meals, drinks, and favors. Instead of inviting your second cousin’s ex-roommate, focus on the people you truly want to celebrate with. Think quality over quantity. A smaller guest count can give you more freedom to go bigger on things that matter. 3. Build a Wedding Budget Cushion No matter how well you plan, surprises happen. Set aside 10–15% of your total budget as a buffer for unexpected costs—like overtime fees, last-minute rentals, or weather plan B’s. Trust us, your future self will thank you. 4. Don’t Forget the Hidden Extras Your vendor contracts likely won’t include things like tips, taxes, service fees, delivery charges, dress alterations, postage, or overtime. These costs sneak in quickly, so it’s smart to estimate them ahead of time. Use a spreadsheet or app to track and update these extras as you go. 5. Use a Wedding Budget Tracker Whether it’s a Google Sheet, a Notion dashboard, or a tool like HoneyBook, the key is tracking everything in one place. This helps you stay accountable and avoid surprise expenses later. Bonus: It’s easier to share with your planner or partner if everything’s centralized. 6. Be Honest About What You Can Spend Before you book a single thing, have a clear conversation about how much money you actually have—not what you hope to save later. Include contributions from family or other sources if applicable, and don’t forget to account for non-wedding expenses that’ll come up. Staying honest from the start avoids tough convos later. 7. Break Big Payments Into Installments Most vendors allow you to split costs between a deposit and final payment. This keeps your cash flow smoother and makes it easier to plan for what’s ahead. Always clarify payment deadlines and cancellation policies before signing anything. 8. Ask Vendors for Flexible Options Don’t be afraid to ask vendors if they have lower-cost packages, weekday pricing, or seasonal discounts. Even shifting your wedding date by a week or choosing a brunch instead of dinner can save big. Vendors want to work with you—just ask. 9. Go Seasonal With Decor & Food Seasonal flowers and food are not only more sustainable—they’re often more affordable, too. Ask your florist and caterer for what’s in-season to get the most value. Bonus: It usually looks and tastes better, too. 10. Pick and Choose Your DIY Projects DIY can be fun—but it’s also time-consuming and sometimes more expensive than expected. Choose just one or two projects that you’ll genuinely enjoy doing and leave the rest to pros. Think guest favors, a photo display, or handwritten notes—not building a flower wall the night before. Wedding Budget Planning Made Easy There’s no one-size-fits-all formula, but with the right wedding planning budget checklist, you can plan confidently and intentionally. You deserve a day that feels beautiful, stress-free, and 100% you—without waking up to a bank account in tears. - How to Set Healthy Boundaries as a Woman Entrepreneur
By Brandi Swanson, Next Chapter Weddings | Houston, TX Empowering female entrepreneurs to thrive Setting boundaries is one of the most powerful and necessary skills for any entrepreneur — especially for women balancing business, family, and self-care. But it’s also one of the hardest things to do. For years, I struggled to say “no” or create limits around my work because I felt guilty, worried about disappointing others, or afraid of missing opportunities. But what I learned through experience is that healthy boundaries are not just important — they’re essential for your wellbeing and success. Why Boundaries Matter Without boundaries, you risk burnout, overwhelm, and losing sight of your own needs and goals. Boundaries help you: Protect your time and energy Maintain focus on what matters most Create respect in professional and personal relationships Preserve your mental and physical health How to Start Setting Boundaries Today 1. Know your limits. Take time to understand how much work and stress you can realistically handle without harming yourself. 2. Define your non-negotiables. Decide what days, times, or activities are off-limits for work — like I did by reserving Sundays strictly for family and rest. 3. Communicate clearly and kindly. Let clients, colleagues, and family know your boundaries respectfully and consistently. 4. Practice saying “no.” It’s okay to decline extra work or requests that don’t align with your limits. 5. Protect your boundaries fiercely. When you set a boundary, honor it — even if it feels uncomfortable at first. How Boundaries Help Your Business Thrive Creating space for rest and clarity allows you to show up as your best self for your clients. It improves your focus, creativity, and joy — all of which translate into better service and stronger relationships. Final Thoughts Setting boundaries isn’t selfish; it’s an act of self-respect and business respect. If you want your entrepreneurial journey to be sustainable and fulfilling, boundaries are your best friend. Take the first step today. Your future self — and your business — will thank you. - How Choosing the Right Linen for Your Wedding Changes Everything
When couples dream about their wedding, they often picture the flowers, the dress, the food, or even the dance floor. But there’s one design element that almost always gets overlooked — and it can transform the entire look and feel of your celebration: quality linens. Most venues or rental companies provide standard polyester linens in white, ivory, or black. While these do the job of covering the tables, they often look flat, wrinkled, and lack the elegance that couples envision for their wedding day. On the other hand, upgrading to a specialty linen — whether it’s a textured fabric, a spun polyester, or a luxurious poly-cotton blend — instantly elevates your event. It creates a more romantic, elegant atmosphere that your guests will notice, even if they can’t quite put their finger on why everything feels so polished. Why Linen Upgrades Matter Linens may not seem like a big deal when you’re reviewing your wedding budget, but they act as the foundation for your entire reception design. Everything else — your centerpieces, candles, chargers, and glassware — sits on top of your tablecloth. When that base layer looks crisp, weighty, and luxurious, it makes every other detail shine. As a Houston wedding planner, I’ve seen firsthand how upgraded linens make a ballroom feel more sophisticated, or how adding textured napkins brings warmth and dimension to a romantic outdoor reception. Guests rarely say, “Wow, the linens were stunning!” but they always notice how beautiful and elegant the room feels. That subconscious impression is what makes linens one of the most impactful design choices you can make. How to Choose the Right Linen for Your Wedding If you’re considering linen upgrades, here are a few of my favorite recommendations: Spun Polyester or Poly-Cotton Blends – These are my personal favorites. They feel like cotton, drape beautifully, and are both luxurious and practical. Textured Linens – Fabrics with weight, texture, or subtle patterns add depth and dimension to your tablescape. Think velvet, matte satin, or a woven design. Statement Napkins – A high-quality napkin folded beautifully at each place setting can instantly elevate your table design, even if you don’t upgrade the full tablecloth. The Reserve at Cypress Creek Wedding, Linens by Mulberry Basket Events Where to Splurge (Even on a Budget) Not every couple needs to upgrade every single table. If you’re working within a budget, consider focusing on specialty areas such as: Your head table or sweetheart table The cake table or champagne tower The welcome table or cocktail tables VIP or family tables By upgrading just a few key spots, you can create focal points that photograph beautifully and set the tone for your reception, without breaking the bank! White Sweetheart Table with Linens by Mulberry Basket Events Finding the Right Linen Rentals At Next Chapter Weddings, we partner with several linen rental companies in Houston and beyond to help our couples find the right elevated linens that fit their vision and budget. Even standard rental companies often carry upgraded options, but couples rarely know to ask. That’s why working with a planner can make all the difference — we know which details are worth the investment and where you can save without sacrificing style. Here's a Wedding Cake Table idea — elegance in white! Final Thoughts When planning your Houston wedding, don’t underestimate the power of a quality linen. It’s one of the most overlooked design details, but it’s also one of the most impactful. Investing in upgraded tablecloths and napkins will give your wedding a refined, elegant feel that your guests will remember long after the last song plays. At Next Chapter Weddings, our goal is to help couples create beautiful, meaningful celebrations where the focus stays on love — but we also know the little design touches that make your big day unforgettable. If you’re starting to plan your wedding, we’d love to help guide you through the details that matter most. Ready to bring your dream wedding to life? - Top 9 Wedding Photographers in Houston
As a Wedding Planner, there's one thing I know for certain: the power of a photograph to preserve the essence of a special day. The right wedding photographer has the ability to encapsulate emotions, freeze moments in time, and tell a couple's unique love story through their lens. And when it comes to finding the perfect wedding photographer in Houston, a city brimming with talent, the task can feel both exhilarating and daunting. To help couples navigate through the vast sea of photographers, I've curated a list of the top 9 wedding photographers in Houston who have consistently delivered breathtaking imagery and impeccable service. These photographers have not only impressed me as a Wedding Planner but have also garnered rave reviews from their clients, making them the go-to professionals in the industry. From capturing stolen glances and heartfelt embraces to immortalizing grand celebrations and intimate exchanges of vows, these photographers possess a rare talent for capturing the essence of each couple's love story. Whether your dream wedding is a lavish affair or an intimate gathering, their expertise, creativity, and commitment to perfection will ensure that your cherished memories are transformed into timeless works of art. 1. Rivers Light Photography When and why did you start your photography business? I've always loved photography because it's a creative outlet and because it documents important memories. In 2017, my husband bought me a new camera and as I shared my work people began to request bookings. We decided to make the business official and it was the best decision ever! What is your photography style? It's important to me that people enjoy the photography experience as much as they love their images. During portrait sessions, I provide a lot of posing direction as well as incorporate fun prompts. On wedding days, there are times I take charge to set up important moments and other times I remain hidden in the background to capture moments as they happen. My editing style is vibrant, true to color and romantic. Why Wedding Photography? There is a personal element that happens when working closely to a couple through engagement, bridals, and wedding day. The connection you make is amazing and gives me so much joy! As a creative, I get to use a variety of different skills within wedding photography and I absolutely love that! What is something you wish people knew about your business? My heart is in this. I built my business on the pillars of love, family, and legacy. Everything I do to develop my skills and enhance my client experience is because of those three areas in my personal life and I work hard to make sure those areas of my clients' lives are well represented in their images. What is your website and IG? My website is https://riverslightphotography.com/ and you can follow me on Instagram at @riverslightphotography 2. Aly Matei Photography 1. When and why did you start your photography business? I shot my first wedding November 2017! 2. What is your photography style? When I hear “photography style” I think 2 different things: 1st being my shooting/editing style and 2nd being my photography philosophy I like to describe my editing style as clean and true to life. It doesn’t fall under the typical “light and airy” or “moody” styles that we often see. I believe that colors are meant to be photographed how they are in real life and with my editing, I give them that extra pop to really stand out. One of my big hills that I will die on is true to life skin tones. No one deserves to be orange or lost in the editing colors. Skin tones deserve to have that natural glow and you look like yourself. As for my photography philosophy, it is quite simple: I firmly believe that your wedding day should be spent experiencing these special and once in a lifetime moments instead of constantly posing in front of the camera. Your wedding day is meant to be experienced and documented - not staged. 3. Why Wedding Photography? Truly, I just love weddings. I love the beauty of a wedding gown. I love the timeline to keep us on track. I love the thought and detail that goes into planning. I love the high stress that a wedding day can bring. I love having to think on my feet. I love building a relationship with my couples over the year as they plan. I love collaborating with vendors who love what they do. 4. What is something you wish people knew about your business? I freaking LOVE a good party! The reception is where the bulk of a couple’s budget is spent and I firmly believe that it should be documented with the same love and care as the couples’ portraits in natural light outside. The reception is where not only the couple, but the guest come alive! They are able to let loose and just truly celebrate the couple. THOSE are the shots that drive me. Anyone can take beautiful natural light portraits outside, but documenting the reception in a variety of lighting conditions is where I believe a photographer’s skillset gets put to work. 5. What is your website and IG? www.alymateiphoto.com www.instagram.com/alymateiphoto 3. Kaysa Elise Photography 1. When and why did you start your photography business? I developed a passion for photography in my early years of high school. I remember taking an Audio/Visual elective class my freshman year and the minute we got to put our hands on an actual camera, I was hooked. Ever since then, I would beg to check out the camera to take home with me on the weekends to practice little photoshoots with my sister and other friends of mine. I eventually joined the high school yearbook staff my junior year and was quickly known as "the girl with the camera." By the time I was a senior, other students in my class and from surrounding school's in the area started booking me for their senior photos. I couldn't believe I was actually able to make money off of taking pictures but I was loving every minute of it! I saved up enough money from all of my shoot's and eventually bought a camera of my own the summer after I graduated. Then by January of 2020, I decided to make my business official! I was attending Bible College, leading worship at my church, and doing photoshoots on the side. After much praying, I decided to go full time into photography in 2021 and I've been shooting primarily weddings and couples ever since then! I truly thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to do what I love, and I wouldn't trade it for anything! 2. What is your photography style? I would describe myself as more of a documentary, editorial and portrait photographer. My editing style is more of a timeless, warm, natural look. I’m not dark and moody, but also not bright and airy - so somewhere in between. 3. Why Wedding Photography? I used to think that I would never be able to shoot weddings. In my mind, it was always such a super far away goal that I MIGHT be able to dip my toe into… one day. However, it snuck up on me a lot quicker than I expected. I was fortunate enough to meet one of my now good friends (Cicily Ashcraft) shortly after I started my business. We were both in the early stages of photography and of course, we hit it off right away. She ended up asking me to second shoot for a few of her first couple wedding bookings. Ever since then, I quickly realized that I was in love with love! I loved everything about shooting a wedding, all of the special and beautiful moments, the pretty details, and capturing the true romance between a couple gave me the best feeling! 4. What is something you wish people knew about your business? For any couple out there looking for a photographer, I wish they could know how personal I am in my business and with all of my clients. I get so emotionally invested in every booking and I truly want to create an easy experience, where they almost feel like they are booking a friend vs. an ordinary wedding vendor. I care so much about my couples as actual people, and making sure they genuenely enjoy their session and/or wedding day. I try my best to make it a stress-free process, and I’m super easy going and always willing to work around personal matters! 5. What is your website and IG? www.kaysaelisephotography.com https://www.instagram.com/kaysa.elise.photography/ 4. Angela Lauren Co 1. When and why did you start your photography business? I started my photography business in September 2016 after I had a youtube channel for 2 years and fell in love with cameras. Since I was starting to do a lot more camera wise for my YouTube channel, so many people around me started asking for me to do the same for them which birthed Angela Lauren Company. 2. What is your photography style? I would say my photography style is Classic, Fun and True To Color. I like to be a good mix of posey and fly on the wall to get those magazine-feel photos as well as the natural moments happening around me. 3. Why Wedding Photography? I got into weddings because a friend of a friend asked to capture their wedding pretty early on in my business and I fell in love with the atmosphere. Capturing sacred moments that you and your spouse will cherish for a lifetime always moves my soul. 4. What is something you wish people knew about your business? I wish people knew we offer both photo and video and they are equal loves of ours. 5. What is your website and IG? My website is www.angelalauren.co IG is @angelalaurenco 5. Pedigo Photography 1. When and why did you start your photography business? In 2007 I was chosen to be the Astros photography intern. What an incredible experience! Learned so much from the experienced sports photographers that covered the team. That summer I had the opportunity to shadow my first wedding. It was love at first snap! Drove home in silence. I’d just found my passion. All I could think about was… you guessed it… weddings. So started the countdown clock until I graduated when I could focus fully on building the business. 2. Why Wedding Photography? Always knew I enjoyed photography but wedding photography lit a fire under me. It’s a canvas to create a unique art collection that’ll last for decades. No two couples, personalities, timelines, venues, or seasons are the same! 3 . What is your photography style? My style is classically candid. The coloring is as natural as the eye sees. By sticking to classic coloring the images will look current for decades to come! I switched over to a standard color scale in 2015. Before switching I’d noticed that many of the current fads tended to shift every few years. When I went back and looked at the way I was editing from 2007-2015 the colors seemed dated to a specific timeframe. After making the shift to natural coloring the images looked like they were shot yesterday. Lighting is key. Great skin stems from great lighting. Everything else comes second in creating amazing portraits.Framing is also super important to me. Finding interesting lines in the natural landscape is always a fun challenge. A single oak tree can create such interesting architecture! Inside that frame I want your personalities to shine through. Some of the best, most candid images aren’t even planned. I’ll help with all the posing but from there let me capture who you really are together. 4 . What is something you wish people knew about your business? I’m a big proponent of transparent packages and client satisfaction. No hidden fees. No gotcha moments. Simply add tax to the packages and that’s what most brides will spend. You receive the fully printable files right away. No need to come back to me for printing unless you want to print through the gallery. Rain on the wedding day? No problem! We’ll go back out on a future date free of charge. Need further editing? No fees! Whatever you need done to get the pictures looking perfect is included in the package for no additional charge. Last but not least…day-of sneak peeks. That’s right! Each client receives a gallery of sneak peeks the day of the wedding. Typically delivered during the reception. Nothing better than going through your wedding pictures on the ride home! 5. What is your website and IG? Website: www.pedigophotography.com IG: pedigophotography 6. Mandi Roach Photography 1. When and why did you start your photography business? When I was young, I would spend hours sitting on the floor looking through stacks of photo albums. I found that the photos transported me to a time and place that I had never been. To younger versions of those, I knew and loved. I would study those images and notice patterns, textures, colors, light, but most importantly, emotions and expressions. In high school, I took all the elective art classes that I could. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I was a really troubled kid, and I believe art lent itself to my healing since I lacked the vocabulary to express the emotions of my childhood trauma. Inadvertently, I ended up in a photojournalism class my junior year, and my time spent capturing moments and developing film shaped my life in a way I never imagined. In 2000, I invested in my first DSLR, a Nikon D90, so that I could get incredible images of my first child. I did not want to miss a single moment! Eventually, I started taking portraits for friends and friends of friends, and became fascinated with being able to capture more than just a photo, but something that gave off a feeling, a vibe, told someone’s story or captured the essence of a moment. Things gradually picked up as I shared my work and I started shooting more and more. I started marketing myself as a family and newborn photographer in 2014. and had absolutely zero intentions of photographing weddings. The pressure of shooting weddings was something I would happily leave to other people. So imagine my surprise, just a few months later, when my very first wedding clients came knocking on my door. I’d been recommended to them by a mutual friend. They were planning their wedding in a short timeframe, had a tiny budget and were happy to trust me to capture their day. Every day I THANK GOD that I managed to do that without completely making a mess of their images. Although I didn’t realize it at the time, I was woefully unprepared to be a wedding photographer. I had an amateur level camera, a kit lens and a cheap 50mm, one flash gun and absolutely no idea how to use it and literally no idea what a wedding day entailed for a wedding photographer. Let me emphasize this again – I was very, very fortunate that everything went to plan, that it didn’t rain, and that my couple are lovely and easygoing. After that very first wedding I was hooked — I knew weddings were where I wanted to be and from that moment on I concentrated all my efforts into building my wedding photography business. 2. What is your photography style? I describe myself as a wedding and elopement photographer. Approximately 85% of my bookings are couples or weddings, with the other 15% being families, seniors and branding sessions. On a wedding day, my mission is to photograph people as authentically as possible. That might mean stepping back and letting the honest, real moments unfold with little to no direction from me. I do not view wedding days as a photoshoot. They’re not about industry trends and Instagram likes; they are about the unique love between two people.. 3. Why Wedding Photography? There are few things that bring me more joy than serving couples and weddings. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t cry when the mother helps her daughter put on her wedding gown, when the father first sees his daughter as a bride, when the bride and groom read their personal vows, or when toasts are given at the reception. It’s not just a transaction for me; I am personally and emotionally invested in each of my clients. To put it plainly, I work my butt off because I believe that couples deserve THE BEST on their wedding day, and I’m not willing to give anything less! Looking back on the journey, it’s so obvious how God perfectly weaved my life into exactly what I needed. I never would have had the courage or the vision to have pursued my own photography business without God laying it in my lap the way he did. I’m not saying it wasn’t hard, but it was worth it. 4. What is something you wish people knew about your business? There are so many amazing photographers out there, some of whom are technically better photographers than me, but I think I’m known for loving my clients well and capturing real, authentic emotion. No one puts as much emphasis on the client experience as I do. My couples become family. I want to share in their wedding planning and be there for them long after their wedding day. 5. What is your website and IG? Website: www.mandiroachphotography.com Instagram: www.instagram.com/mandiroachphotography Facebook: www.facebook.com/mandiroachphotography 7. Good Omen Co 1. When and why did you start your photography business? We started our business about seven years ago, shortly after becoming new parents to both our daughters. More than anything we were looking to provide a wholesome lifestyle for our girls which is why we decided to take our side photography projects full time and we haven’t looked back since. 2. What is your photography style? Documentary style with a fun, edgy, and modern look and feel. 3. Why wedding photography? Wedding photography just feels so natural for us as a husband and wife team. We’ve been where our couples are and as parents we also know the deep importance of capturing life milestones. We treat each wedding day through that grand perspective and we genuinely love serving and guiding others through such a beautiful time in their lives. 4. - Creating a Custom Wedding Dress: A Unique Expression of Personal Style
As a wedding planner with years of experience, I have witnessed countless beautiful moments, enchanting ceremonies, and heartwarming celebrations. Each wedding is a unique reflection of the couple's love story, and one thing that stands out is the importance of personalization. In a world filled with trends and societal expectations, allowing your true selves to shine through during the wedding planning process can make your special day an unforgettable and meaningful experience. Let's delve into why personalization and authenticity are crucial when planning your wedding, and how creating a custom floral wedding gown may be the right choice for you. Celebrating Your Love Story: Your love story is one-of-a-kind, and your wedding should reflect that. Embrace your journey as a couple and incorporate elements that hold significance to you. Whether it's a shared hobby, a cherished memory, or a common interest, infusing these personal touches into your wedding creates a profound emotional connection, not only for you but also for your guests. It's an opportunity to weave your unique narrative throughout the day and create an experience that is authentically yours. Showcasing Your Individuality: A wedding is a celebration of two individuals coming together, and embracing your individuality can transform your wedding into an extraordinary event. Don't be afraid to showcase your personality, style, and preferences. From the choice of venue and decor to the music and food, infuse elements that resonate with who you are as individuals and as a couple. By being true to yourselves, you create an atmosphere that is warm, inviting, and genuine, leaving an indelible impression on everyone present. Making Lasting Memories: Weddings are an accumulation of memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. By personalizing your wedding, you ensure that these memories are not only beautiful but also deeply meaningful. When you plan a wedding that reflects your personalities, interests, and values, every aspect becomes a vessel for crafting moments that are authentic and emotional. These are the moments that will be etched in your memory forever, and they will be shared and treasured by your loved ones as well. Connecting with Your Guests: Your wedding day is an opportunity to bring your loved ones together and celebrate the love and joy that surrounds you. By infusing personal touches, you create an environment that resonates with your guests and fosters a sense of connection. When guests walk into a wedding that is a true representation of the couple, they feel a part of something intimate and genuine. Personalized details such as handwritten notes, custom favors, interactive elements or a show-stopping, one-of-a-kind wedding gown can help forge deeper bonds and create an experience that is both memorable and inclusive. Breaking Free from Conformity: In a world filled with wedding trends and societal expectations, it can be tempting to conform to what others expect of you. However, true beauty lies in breaking free from those expectations and embracing your own vision. By personalizing your wedding, you become the author of your own story, weaving together elements that are meaningful to you. Don't be afraid to challenge norms, incorporate unconventional ideas, and create a wedding that truly reflects your values and dreams. Your authenticity will inspire others to embrace their own individuality and celebrate love in their unique way. However, true beauty lies in breaking free from those expectations and embracing your own vision. Your wedding gown is a symbol of elegance, beauty, and your personal style. For brides who seek to break away from tradition and make a bold fashion statement, a custom floral wedding gown is a perfect choice. Combining the timeless allure of a wedding dress with the enchanting beauty of nature, a floral gown allows you to express your individuality and create a look that is truly unforgettable. Here's why a custom floral wedding gown can be a remarkable addition to your personalized wedding: A Reflection of Your Personality: Your wedding day is an opportunity to showcase your unique personality and style. By opting for a custom wedding dress, you have the chance to design a dress that perfectly encapsulates your essence. From the selection of floral patterns and colors to the choice of fabric and silhouette, every detail can be customized to align with your vision. Whether you prefer delicate, romantic blooms or bold and vibrant floral motifs, your gown will be a true reflection of your personality, making you feel confident, beautiful, and authentically yourself on your special day. Infusing Nature's Splendor: Nature has an inherent ability to evoke a sense of wonder and beauty. By incorporating floral elements into your wedding gown, you bring the splendor of the natural world to your attire. Whether it's subtle floral lace appliqués, intricate floral embroidery, or even three-dimensional floral embellishments, these details can transform your gown into a wearable work of art. The delicate petals and intricate blooms will add depth, texture, and a touch of whimsy, making your gown an enchanting sight to behold. Symbolism and Sentiment: Flowers have long been associated with symbolism and emotions. Each bloom carries its own unique significance, allowing you to infuse your wedding gown with deeper meaning. Choose flowers that hold special symbolism to you and your partner. Whether it's roses representing love, orchids symbolizing beauty, or daisies signifying purity, incorporating these flowers into your gown creates a profound connection between your attire and the sentiments you hold dear. It becomes a wearable testament to the love and emotions you share on your wedding day. Exquisite Craftsmanship: Creating a custom floral wedding gown requires the skill and artistry of talented designers and artisans. From sketching the initial design to handcrafting intricate floral details, the craftsmanship involved in bringing your gown to life is truly exceptional. Working closely with a skilled dressmaker or designer, you have the opportunity to collaborate and bring your vision to reality. The result is a gown that is meticulously crafted, tailored to perfection, and imbued with the love and dedication of the artisans who brought it to fruition. A Timeless Heirloom: A custom floral wedding gown is not just a dress for a single day; it can become a cherished heirloom that holds memories and stories for generations to come. With its unique design, it stands apart from conventional wedding dresses and becomes a piece of wearable art that can be passed down as a symbol of love and individuality. It serves as a lasting reminder of your special day and the love that blossomed during this momentous occasion. - Planning a Holiday Wedding
As a Wedding Planner, I have had the privilege of witnessing countless love stories unfold in the most beautiful settings. Among these, holiday weddings hold a special place in my heart. The combination of love, celebration, and the joyous spirit of the holiday season makes for an extraordinary event—one that becomes a cherished memory for everyone involved. There is something magical about vows exchanged under twinkling lights or in the glow of a crackling fire. So, let’s talk about the intricate process of planning a holiday wedding, where dreams come alive against a backdrop of festive cheer. (AH! I LOVE CHRISTMAS!) Red Velvet | Christmas Wedding | Hippy Girl Photography Choosing the Perfect Date The first step in planning any wedding—especially a holiday one—is selecting the perfect date. The holiday season offers a wealth of romantic options, from a winter wonderland celebration in December to the tender romance of Valentine's Day in February. Before locking in your date, consider a few key factors. Are there specific holidays you and your partner adore? Do you want to avoid overlapping with major family commitments? For instance, a Christmas Eve wedding might feel magical, but it could conflict with annual family traditions. On the other hand, hosting your wedding on New Year’s Eve can double as the ultimate party, giving your guests two reasons to celebrate. Pro tip: Secure your date as early as possible. Popular holiday weekends tend to book up quickly for both venues and vendors. Being proactive ensures you won’t have to compromise on your dream day. Embrace the Festive Theme The holiday season provides endless opportunities to weave festive charm into your wedding theme. Whether you envision a cozy, rustic Christmas celebration or a glamorous New Year’s Eve bash dripping in sequins and sparkle, the possibilities are endless. Infuse the holiday spirit into your decor to create an atmosphere your guests will never forget. For a winter wonderland vibe, consider icy blues, silvers, and whites paired with snowflake motifs and crystal accents. A rustic Christmas theme might include pinecones, plaid patterns, and lush evergreen garlands. And for Valentine’s Day, think romantic reds, soft blush tones, and heart-shaped details. Don't forget the ambiance. Twinkling fairy lights, candles, and fireplaces can create a warm and inviting setting, while seasonal blooms like poinsettias, amaryllis, or even holly berries add a festive touch. Whatever theme you choose, let it reflect both the holiday season and your unique love story. Mr & Mrs | Hippy Girl Photography Selecting the Venue When planning a holiday wedding, the venue plays a starring role in setting the mood. Luckily, the season offers unique and stunning options to explore. Here are a few ideas: - Historic Mansions: Picture grand staircases adorned with garlands, antique decor, and cozy nooks perfect for intimate moments. - Winter Gardens: Greenhouses or botanical gardens can be transformed into magical spaces filled with seasonal blooms and warm lighting. - Barns: A rustic barn with exposed beams and a crackling fireplace offers a charming and intimate setting for a Christmas or winter wedding. - Resorts or Hotels: Many resorts offer holiday packages, complete with festive decor, catering, and accommodations for your guests. No matter the venue, be sure to visit it during the same season as your wedding. This helps you envision how the space will look with holiday decor and ensures you’re prepared for weather conditions. Table Setting | Christmas Wedding | Hippy Girl Photography Create a Memorable Menu One of the highlights of any wedding is the food, and a holiday celebration provides the perfect opportunity to craft a menu that feels both festive and indulgent. Work with your caterer to design dishes that highlight seasonal flavors and holiday traditions. Start with cozy appetizers, like butternut squash soup shooters or cranberry-brie tartlets. For the main course, consider options like herb-crusted turkey, maple-glazed salmon, or a vegetarian option featuring roasted winter vegetables. To top it all off, wow your guests with desserts like peppermint bark, gingerbread cookies, or a festive Yule log cake. Don’t forget the beverages! A hot chocolate bar with toppings like marshmallows, whipped cream, and candy canes can delight guests of all ages. For the adults, serve signature holiday cocktails, such as spiked eggnog or cranberry mimosas. Invitations and Favors Your wedding invitations are the first glimpse guests will have into your holiday theme. Use them to set the tone for your celebration. Festive designs might include metallic accents, embossed snowflakes, or rich seasonal hues like burgundy and gold. When it comes to favors, think of items that capture the spirit of the season. Personalized ornaments, mini jars of spiced cider mix, or holiday-scented candles are thoughtful and practical. You could also offer edible treats, such as cookies decorated with your wedding monogram or small jars of honey with holiday-inspired labels. Christmas Wedding Tablescape | Hippy Girl Photography Entertainment and Activities Infusing holiday cheer into your wedding entertainment is a surefire way to leave your guests talking about your big day for years to come. Here are some festive ideas: - Carolers: Hire a group of singers to serenade your guests with holiday classics during the cocktail hour or as they enter the reception. - Live Band or DJ: Select a playlist that blends seasonal favorites with your personal must-have dance songs. - Photo Booth: Provide holiday-themed props, like Santa hats, elf ears, or signs with cheeky holiday phrases. - Special Guests: A surprise visit from Santa or Mrs. Claus could be a hit, especially if you have children attending. For winter weddings, consider setting up a hot cocoa or mulled wine station as a cozy activity. If your venue has outdoor space, offer blankets and set up a fire pit for s'mores. These small touches help create a warm and festive atmosphere your guests will adore. Vows | Hippy Girl Photography Holiday Wedding Planning Tips for the Bride and Groom Holiday weddings are magical, but they also come with unique challenges. To ensure your day goes off without a hitch, keep these tips in mind: 1. Book Early: The holiday season is busy for everyone, from venues to florists to your guests. Plan ahead and send out Save-the-Dates well in advance. 2. Consider Travel: Winter weather can impact travel plans. Be mindful of potential delays and consider offering transportation or hotel blocks to make things easier for your guests. 3. Stay on Budget: Holiday decor can quickly add up, so be strategic about your splurges. DIY some details if possible or repurpose seasonal decor already provided by your venue. 4. Practice Self-Care: Between the holidays and wedding planning, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Take time to relax and enjoy the process, whether that’s a spa day, a weekend getaway, or simply a quiet evening with your partner. Bride and Groom | Holiday Wedding | Hippy Girl Photography Planning a holiday wedding is a labor of love that combines the festive spirit of the season with the celebration of your union. From choosing the perfect date and venue to crafting a menu full of seasonal delights, every detail contributes to a day that will be remembered forever. Whether you’re dreaming of a winter wonderland, a rustic Christmas, or a glamorous New Year’s Eve celebration, embrace the magic of the season and create a wedding day as unique and special as your love story. - My Week as a Wedding Planner
Have you ever wondered what a week in the life of a Wedding Planner looks like? Spoiler alert: It’s never the same, and not as glamorous as J-Lo makes it seem. BUT it’s very rewarding and full of unique love stories, excitement and a lot of dedication! Here’s a little peek at what goes into making wedding magic happen- My Week as a Wedding Planner in Texas. Brandi Swanson | Owner and Lead Planner + Designer at Next Chapter Weddings, based in HTX Monday: Catching up on emails, finalizing timelines, and touching base with vendors to make sure everything is running smoothly. Organization is key! Honestly, I do this more than I do anything else in my business. Emails and vendor communication take up least 50-60% of my work hours. I do enjoy the process though! Especially, since I purchased my pink iMac. It makes my life run so much more efficient. I'd much rather email than make a fun call! What about you? Tuesday: Education + Learning. Always growing! Coordinating with my team, brainstorming new ideas, and prepping for upcoming weddings. Next year (2025), will be my third year to serve on the Association of Wedding Planners Board of Directors. This group is phenomenal. It consists of top notch Wedding Planners throughout the Greater Houston Area that all believe in community over competition. The association also focus on providing training to its members, in addition to great networking. You will find me attending AWP Meetings every month. You can also find me listening to hours of educational podcasts and webinars. "Next year (2025) will be my third year to serve on the Association of Wedding Planners Board of Directors." I was asked to speak on the panel to discuss Styled Shoots and why they are important in the wedding industry. Wednesday: Venue walk-throughs and design meetings—bringing the couple's dream to life, one detail at a time. When new venues pop up or I book a client that is getting married at a venue I have never worked at, I always try to schedule a venue walk-through. Knowing the layout and logistics of a venue prior to wedding day makes everything flow seamlessly. As Next Chapter Wedding's Lead Planner + Designer, I get the honor of designing for all of my planning clients. This includes floorplans, moodboards, mockups, color-matching, video calls, warehouse visits and more. Designing a wedding is not for the weak! (It's also my favorite part!) We love in-person meetings, but nothing replaces the flexibility of virtual calls! Thursday: Marketing to get our company name out to Brides and Grooms. Final check-ins with this weekend’s couple, packing my emergency kit (you name it, I’ve got it!), and making sure every little detail is in place. Marketings has so many faces. This could look like planning and executing a styled shoot, creating Instagram Reels, sending emails, participating in Bridal Shows, etc. Without marketing, couples would not know that Next Chapter Weddings exist, so we have to put the effort in each and every week to get our name out there. My favorite way to market is to make Instagram reels! Friday/Saturday: Wedding day magic! From rehearsal and setting up décor to keeping the schedule on track, we're in full coordination mode making sure everything is flawless. I usually only take meetings the first half of Friday as Friday evenings usually included wedding rehearsals. Some couples opt to have Friday weddings, so if that's the case, we are at a wedding, of course. And if there is no rehearsal or wedding, I try to recharge and catch my breath before Saturday. Most Saturdays are wedding days. Now that our Next Chapter Weddings team is growing, I personally may have less Saturdays booked. In a way this is sad- I LOVE wedding day! However, allowing time to recharge and grow the company only benefits everyone involved (myself, my family, my team and my clients). "However, allowing time to recharge and grow the company only benefits everyone involved (myself, my family, my team and my clients). I miss that coat... this photo was take years ago. I still get excited for my lovely Bride! Sunday: A little R&R with my #1 favs. This is a non-negotiable this year. I no longer take meetings on Sundays. Wedding days are so hard on me physically, I NEED the recovery time. And more importantly, my kiddos need me to be present. I am so honored to have a job that I absolutely love, and I have the most amazing clients, but Sundays are simply my favorite. You can't beat the snuggles and laughter from an 8, 6 and 3 year old. (Oh and the cuddles from my labradoodle, Jazzy, too!!) This is my crew. The Swanson Family. Donovan, Brandi (me), Eliana, Wyatt and Zara. Being a Wedding Planner is unpredictable, challenging, and SO rewarding. I wouldn’t trade it for the world! What part of this week surprises you most? Let me know in the comments! - From Passion to Burnout and Back: How I Learned to Protect Myself as an Entrepreneur
By Brandi Swanson, Next Chapter Weddings Houston, TX — Supporting female entrepreneurs with heart. My entrepreneurial journey began when I was just 18, opening a dance studio in my hometown. For seven years, I poured my heart into that business — but eventually, I realized it wasn’t the right fit anymore. I wanted to be more present as a mom and explore new passions. In 2018, as a single mom with two little ones under three, I launched my wedding planning business. I was determined to make it work for me and my family. My mission was clear: to remove distractions so couples could fully experience their wedding day. I loved my work deeply — it was my purpose, my passion, my pride. But here’s the truth: I pushed myself too hard. When Passion Turns to Burnout Between growing my business, caring for my family, and striving to give my best to both, I found myself running nonstop — with no time for rest or self-care. Eventually, my body started to send me urgent signals. My hands clenched so tightly that my nails dug into my skin. I developed tension headaches, neck and shoulder pain, and overwhelming fatigue. After countless tests and visits to specialists, the diagnosis was clear: burnout caused by chronic stress and overwork. What I Learned From Burnout Burnout doesn’t mean you’re weak. It means you’re human. And it’s a warning that something has to change. Here’s what helped me begin healing — and what I want every female entrepreneur to know: Set non-negotiable boundaries. I dedicated Sundays as sacred no-work days — no emails, no calls, no meetings. Just family and rest. Reserve Saturdays for events only. If there was no event, I took the day off completely to recharge. Listen to your body. When tension builds, stop, breathe, and release. Don’t ignore the signs your body gives you. Prioritize yourself without guilt. Taking time for you isn’t selfish — it’s essential to serving your clients with joy and authenticity. Remember why you started. Your passion is the fuel — but it needs rest to keep burning bright. Why Rest Helps You Serve Better A burnt-out entrepreneur isn’t at her best for clients, family, or herself. When you take time to recharge, you bring your full self — energized, creative, and joyful — to your business and relationships. Encouragement for You If you’re hustling hard and feeling exhausted, know this: You are not alone. Your feelings are valid. It’s okay to slow down and set boundaries. Taking care of yourself is part of your business strategy. Final Thought Your dream deserves a healthy, vibrant you. Protect your passion by protecting your wellbeing. When you do, you’ll find more joy, purpose, and success than you ever imagined. - 9 Reasons Every 2026 Couple Should Hire a Wedding Planner
Starting strong for 2026? We love that energy! As you start planning your wedding day, one of the biggest (and smartest) decisions you’ll face is whether to hire a wedding planner. With so many moving parts — from vendors and timelines to design and budget — it’s no wonder couples are seeking professional guidance now more than ever. And you’re absolutely right to. Hiring a wedding planner isn’t just about outsourcing tasks; it’s about setting yourself up for a smoother, more intentional experience from start to finish. So, if you’re ready to make 2026 your most seamless year yet, here are nine reasons why hiring a wedding planner is the key to a stress-free, joy-filled celebration. 1. Hire a Wedding Planner to Save Time (and Sanity) Your time is precious, and wedding planning takes a lot of it. From vendor calls to budget spreadsheets, it’s easy to get caught up in details that steal your joy. When you hire a wedding planner, you reclaim that time. You get to focus on what truly matters — celebrating your engagement, spending time with loved ones, and enjoying the journey — while your planner handles everything else behind the scenes. 2. Keep Every Detail Organized From seating charts to floral setups and table decors, every part of your wedding deserves attention. But that doesn’t mean you need to manage it all. A planner ensures that no small detail slips through the cracks. They’ll track logistics, review contracts, and confirm vendor timelines, creating a seamless experience from start to finish. 3. Stay on Budget Without the Guesswork It might surprise you, but hiring a wedding planner can actually save you money. With insider knowledge of vendor pricing, contracts, and hidden fees, planners help you make smart decisions that align with your priorities. They’ll keep your budget organized, find creative ways to stretch it further, and help you avoid last-minute splurges that don’t serve your vision. 4. Perfect the Timeline from Morning Prep to the Last Dance A beautifully planned wedding day runs on a timeline that feels natural and unhurried. Your planner coordinates every moment, from hair and makeup to the grand exit, so the day flows effortlessly. Vendors, the wedding party, and family all know exactly where to be and when, leaving you free to live fully in the moment. 5. Access the Best Vendors When You Hire a Wedding Planner One of the biggest benefits when you hire a wedding planner is their network. Experienced planners have strong relationships with trusted florists, photographers, caterers, and designers who consistently deliver. This saves you from hours of research and ensures your wedding is supported by reliable professionals who share your vision. 6. Focus on the Joy, Not the Logistics Your wedding day should be about love, laughter, and connection — not logistics. A professional planner ensures that everything runs smoothly so you can be fully present. You won’t have to worry about cueing the first dance or checking whether the candles were lit; your only job will be to smile, dance, and enjoy the moment. 7. Ensure Nothing Gets Left Behind At the end of the night, it’s easy to forget things like gifts, keepsakes, or decor. Your planner ensures every important item is packed, collected, and delivered safely back to you. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes details that keeps the day stress-free and worry-free. 8. Fresh, Personalized Ideas That Feel Like You Every couple wants a celebration that feels unique—not a repeat of the latest Pinterest trend. A wedding planner gives you access to creative direction and personalized ideas that truly reflect your story. Whether your vibe is timeless and romantic or bold and modern, your planner helps turn inspiration into an authentic, cohesive design. 9. Hire a Wedding Planner for Contracts, Coordination, and Confidence Let’s be honest, the fine print can be intimidating. When you hire a wedding planner, you have a professional who’s reviewed countless contracts and knows exactly what to look for. From negotiating terms to managing communication, your planner protects your best interests so you can move forward confidently — without stress or uncertainty. - Building Confidence as a Wedding Planner Without Relying on Certifications
By Brandi Swanson, Next Chapter Weddings | Houston, TX When I started my wedding planning journey, I wondered if I needed a certification to feel confident or be respected. Over time, I realized that true confidence comes from within — from your experience, your heart, and your commitment to your clients — not from a piece of paper. That's where confidence genuinely begins as a wedding planner. Why Confidence Matters as a Wedding Planner Confidence helps you make decisions, build trust with clients, and navigate challenges with grace. Without it, even the most skilled planners can second-guess themselves and miss opportunities. How to Build Confidence Without Certifications 1. Embrace Your Unique Journey Your past experiences — whether planning your own wedding, running a business, or coordinating events — are valuable. Own your story. 2. Learn Constantly Read books, attend workshops, and stay curious, but don’t let learning become a reason to delay action. 3. Celebrate Every Win No win is too small — each successful event or happy client adds to your confidence bank. 4. Surround Yourself with Support Find mentors, join communities, and build a network that uplifts you. 5. Practice Self-Compassion Accept that mistakes happen. Each one is a lesson, not a failure. My Confidence Journey After my initial certification, I realized something important: the certificate wasn’t the thing moving my business forward — I was. It was my passion, my persistence, and the way I showed up for my couples that truly shaped everything that came after. Certifications helped me get started, but they didn’t define my worth or determine my potential. The real transformation happened when I stopped waiting for someone else to validate me and started trusting the voice inside me. That shift, that choice to believe in myself, opened doors I didn’t even know existed. Opportunities found me, clients trusted me, and my business grew in ways that a piece of paper could never promise. Final Thought Confidence is a muscle you build with practice and kindness toward yourself as a wedding planner. When you trust your abilities and heart, you become the planner clients can’t wait to work with.
