  • 5 Lessons I’ve Learned About Leadership Through Healing

Brandi Swanson | Next Chapter Weddings Senior Planner + Designer Healing and leadership might not seem like they belong in the same sentence. But if I’m being honest, I don’t think I truly became a leader until I began healing. I’ve always been a planner, a builder, a problem-solver. But leadership—the kind that creates safety, inspires trust, and makes room for others to grow—didn’t come from my success. It came from my struggles. Here are a few lessons I’ve learned about leadership, not from conferences or books, but from walking through heartbreak, burnout, and rebuilding my own life from the ground up. 1. You can’t lead others well if you abandon yourself in the process For years, I equated leadership with self-sacrifice. I thought being a strong leader meant showing up no matter what, being everything for everyone, and pushing through even when I was running on empty. But I’ve learned the hard way that constantly abandoning my own needs doesn’t make me a good leader—it makes me an exhausted one. The people I lead don’t need me to be perfect; they need me to be present. And I can’t do that if I’m disconnected from myself. 2. Leadership is less about control, more about creating safety As a planner, I naturally gravitate toward structure and control. But healing taught me that leadership isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about creating an environment where people feel safe to bring their whole selves. That means making space for vulnerability on my team. It means checking in—not just on timelines and tasks, but on hearts. It means owning my mistakes and inviting others to do the same without fear of shame or rejection. People don’t grow when they’re micromanaged. They grow when they feel safe. 3. Your scars can be your superpower I used to think that if people knew the pain I’d walked through, they wouldn’t respect me as a leader. But the opposite has been true. Sharing pieces of my story (when appropriate) has opened doors to deeper trust and connection. Healing has taught me that my scars are not weaknesses. They are evidence of survival. And they remind others that they can survive, too. Leadership is not about being untouched by hardship. It’s about showing others what’s possible on the other side of it. 4. Leading with empathy will always be worth the risk Empathy makes you vulnerable. It opens your heart to disappointment. It sometimes means getting hurt. But I would rather risk all of that than become someone who leads from a hardened place. Empathy has allowed me to create meaningful relationships with my team, my clients, and my fellow planners. It’s what turns coworkers into family. It’s what turns vendors into trusted collaborators. And it’s what reminds me, daily, that I’m not in this alone. 5. Healing never ends—and neither does learning I’m still in process. I’m still learning how to speak up without apologizing. I’m still learning how to ask for help. I’m still learning how to be the kind of leader I would want to follow. And maybe that’s the point—leadership isn’t a destination. It’s a daily choice to show up honestly, lead with heart, and grow in front of the people you serve. Leadership in the Wedding Industry Needs More Heart Whether you’re leading a team of planners or simply leading yourself through a tough season—know this: your healing matters. It changes the way you show up. It softens you in the best way. And it can make you the kind of leader this industry desperately needs. I’ll never stop learning. I’ll never stop healing. And I’ll never stop fighting for a world where people lead with heart. • Building a Wedding Planning Business From Scratch as a Single Mom

When I launched my wedding planning business, I was a newly single mom with a one-year-old son and a two-and-a-half-year-old daughter. We were living in a tiny apartment. I had no job security, no backup plan, and barely enough room for a dining table. But I had a dream. And two little faces looking up at me who made giving up not an option. "There was no room for failure," that's what I said to myself Not because I believed I was unstoppable, but because I had to believe something better was possible—for them. Starting My Wedding Planning Business The First Steps Into the Wedding Planning World I got my start by working at a local wedding venue, giving tours, managing contracts, and working weddings onsite. It was hands-on, sometimes chaotic, but it gave me an up-close look at what made weddings run smoothly… or fall apart. And here’s what I quickly noticed: when couples had a planner in their corner, everything felt different. More peaceful. More joyful. More them. That stuck with me. I realized I didn’t just want to be part of weddings—I wanted to support couples through them. That’s when I knew: this wasn’t just a job. I wanted to build a wedding planning business that made a difference. Making It Official (Even Before It Felt Real) About five months in, I signed up for a wedding planning certification course. Was it the magic answer to everything? Not really. But it gave me something I really needed in that season: validation. It felt like I was claiming my seat at the table. While studying, I built my brand and created my website from scratch late at night, at our tiny dining table that doubled as our workspace and living room centerpiece. I was all in. The very next day after getting certified, I coordinated my first wedding—for free. A kind-hearted photographer named Chase Pedigo with Pedigo Photography took a chance on me. He referred me to one of his couples and later gave me the full gallery so I could start building my portfolio. That moment of generosity became the foundation of everything that followed in my wedding planning business journey. This is my sweet family now. Remarried. Happy. Thriving. When Doubt Creeps In, Keep Going Let’s be real, there were plenty of doubts. My ex-husband didn’t think I could do it. In fact he told me I wasn't "allowed" to be a Wedding Planner when we were married. And some days, I believed I just wasn't capable. But I also had people in my corner, friends and family who reminded me that I’m a doer. That when I dream something up, I go after it. And when my own belief started to slip, their belief held me steady. I remember one night, sitting across from Donovan (who’s now my husband), in full breakdown mode—tears, fear, the whole thing. I was terrified to keep going. He looked at me and said, “Brandi, you have to do this. You can do this.” Sometimes those words are all it takes to stand back up and try again. Balancing Survival with Starting a Business Emotionally, I stayed grounded by leaning into church, my community, and the joy my kids gave me daily. Their laughter and milestones kept me going when things felt heavy. Financially, I made it work by overlapping my venue job with the early days of my business. We lived simply and intentionally. Most nights, I was up late working at our dining table with my kids playing nearby. It was exhausting, but it meant something. One day, my daughter scribbled on my custom mouse pad with my logo. I cried and it felt like one more thing falling apart. But later, I realized: her scribbles were part of the story. A reminder of why I was doing this. I still keep that mouse pad, messy and all. More Than a Career, It's a Legacy Starting this wedding planning business wasn’t just a career move. It was how I began rebuilding a life that felt whole again. A life where I could be both a present, loving mom and a passionate businesswoman. A life where my kids could watch me chase something with heart and purpose, and know that they were never in the backseat of that dream. To Anyone Building Their Business From Scratch If you’re starting from a place of brokenness, or dreaming of a new path when everything still feels uncertain—I see you. Truly. You’re not alone. Keep going. Keep Building Because the scribbles on your story? They might just turn out to be the most beautiful part. Ready to build your dream, even if it’s from the ground up? Follow @weddingproreset for honest encouragement and real-life business advice for wedding pros starting over or starting fresh.

  • Why You Should Consider a First Look on Your Wedding Day?

Kaitlin & Austin share an emotional First Look | Philip Thomas Photography First Look on your Wedding Day – Yay or No Way? Let’s talk about that unforgettable moment—you lock eyes on your wedding day, hearts pounding, everything else fading away for just a second. Whether you’ve always pictured seeing each other for the first time at the end of the aisle or you’re curious about doing a first look, I want to share some of the amazing reasons why that private moment beforehand might just be the right fit for your big day. 1. It Can Totally Calm Those Nerves Let’s be honest, wedding day jitters are 100% a thing. Even when you’re marrying your absolute favorite person, the idea of walking down that aisle in front of a crowd can make your palms sweat a little. A first look gives you both a moment to exhale. It’s like hitting pause on the wedding whirlwind and pressing play on just us time. The second you see each other, the nerves melt, the breath deepens, and everything feels a little more “okay, we got this.” Because you do. (And you look stunning doing it.) A First Look adds a new layer to an already beautiful day 2. It’s a Sweet, Private Moment Just for You Two Weddings move fast. Between guests, timelines, and all the happy chaos, it’s easy to forget to pause. A first look gives you both a quiet moment just to be together. You can laugh, cry, twirl, or say, “Wow, you look ridiculous-ly good.” Say those things you might not get to say in front of a crowd. It’s your time to be—before the guests arrive. Honestly? These are the moments you’ll remember forever. It’s such a beautiful way to connect before the ceremony. 3. More Time for Gorgeous Photos From a planning perspective, a first look opens up a whole window of time for photos before the ceremony starts. This means we can take our time, find beautiful light, and capture all the moments without feeling rushed. Plus, you’ll look fresh and glowy, which always helps in the photo department! A First Look means: more moments, more time together 4. The Reactions Are Everything There’s something so raw and genuine about a first look. No pressure, no one watching. It's just you two seeing each other for the first time on your wedding day. The expressions, the emotions, the laughter. It’s all real, and it makes for some of the most heart-melting photos in your entire gallery. Now we hear this one all the time: “But won’t it ruin the moment at the ceremony?” Short answer: No. Longer answer: if anything, it makes it even more special. That walk down the aisle? Still iconic. Still emotional. Still full of all the feels. A first look doesn’t take away from it. It just gives you two powerful emotional moments instead of one. (And if you're into happy tears and heart-melting glances… double the moments = double the swoon.) 5. You Get More Time with Your Guests Here’s the math: photos done before the ceremony = more time to eat, drink, and hug your people afterward. Instead of posing for pictures during cocktail hour, you’re clinking glasses, catching up with out-of-town besties, and stealing mini crab cakes from the passed trays. Trust me, your guests will appreciate it, and so will you. The best part? You’re fully present for the fun stuff. More celebrating, less posing. More laughs, less logistics. Your guests came to see you, not just your highlight reel. And this gives you more time to soak it all in, one joyful toast at a time. 6. It Helps the Whole Day Flow Smoothly Having a first look can create a more relaxed and intentional wedding timeline. Instead of cramming all the photos into the space between ceremony and reception, you’ll have room to breathe. That kind of flexibility keeps stress levels low and helps everything run like a dream. 7. It's a Vibe... And It's Your Vibe A first look isn’t just a wedding trend—it’s a statement. It’s about starting your day together with intention, emotion, and maybe a little sparkle in your eyes. It sets the tone for a celebration rooted in connection, not just tradition. And it gives you a chance to be fully present with each other before the whirlwind begins. Now, it’s not for everyone and that’s totally okay. But if you’re the kind of couple who wants to hold hands, take a deep breath, and really feel the weight and joy of the moment before the spotlight turns on… a first look might just be your perfect beginning. Doing a First Look is not for everyone. But it can be for you. So, Should You Do a First Look? At the end of the day, every love story is different, and so is every wedding day. A first look isn’t a must-do or a trend to follow just because it’s popular. It’s simply an option. One that’s tender, intentional, and incredibly grounding if it feels right for you. If you’re leaning toward it, know this: a first look can slow everything down in the sweetest way. It gives you space to breathe, connect, and kick off your day with calm hearts and full eyes. It’s not about skipping the aisle magic... it’s about adding another layer of meaning to an already beautiful day. And here at Next Chapter Weddings, that’s exactly what we’re here for. We help you create a day that reflects you—your vibe, your love, your story. Whether that includes a first look or not, we’ll build a timeline that flows with intention, leaves room for the magic, and skips the unnecessary stress. Because your wedding day should feel like you, through and through.

  • Planning Your Personalized Wedding: 5 Ways to Make It Truly Yours

Your day, your way: Creating a Wedding that feels like you Your wedding day isn’t just a celebration—it’s a living, breathing reflection of the two of you. It’s the laughs you’ve shared, the adventures you’ve taken, the quirks that make you perfect for each other. More than a beautiful event, your wedding should feel like home, a space that tells your story in every detail. Whether you’re the couple who fell in love over coffee and poetry, danced in the kitchen to the same song on repeat, or built your bond on long walks and late-night talks, this day is a chance to celebrate all of it. It’s not about recreating someone else’s wedding; it’s about honoring what makes your relationship one-of-a-kind. "Your love is one-of-a-kind, and your wedding should be just as special." At Next Chapter Weddings, we believe your big day should feel unmistakably you. We help couples infuse personality, sentiment, and intentionality into every part of the experience. So if you’re wondering how to move beyond tradition and into something that feels deeply personal. Here are five creative and meaningful ways to make your wedding an authentic celebration of your love story. 1. Infuse Your Love Story into the Ceremony Your ceremony is the heartbeat of your wedding day. It’s where your love story takes center stage. This is your moment to make it personal and deeply reflective of your relationship. Consider Writing your own vows, sharing anecdotes about how you met, or recalling those early moments when you first realized, “this is it.” Some couples even choose to include lines from their favorite books, movies, or songs... anything that has meaning in your shared history together. Want to take it a step further? Create a visual timeline for your ceremony program that walks guests through the most memorable moments of your relationship, from your first date to your proposal. You could even Display a small memento table, featuring meaningful items like a concert ticket, a travel souvenir, or even a printout of the text message that changed everything. These unique details invite your guests into your story and set a powerful tone for the day. Down to the smallest details. 2. Go Beyond Decor – Tell a Story with Every Detail Personalized weddings aren’t just about monograms and signature colors. They’re about telling your story in unexpected, thoughtful ways. Instead of traditional Table numbers, consider naming each table after a meaningful place or date, like “March 15 - First Kiss” or “New Orleans - Favorite Trip.” Add a little description card to share the backstory, giving guests a glimpse into your memories. If you're both bookworms, incorporate your favorite novels into your Centerpieces, or use library checkout cards for your seating assignments. Music lovers might decorate with vintage records, while plant parents can give out potted succulents as favors with tags that read, “Let love grow.” When it comes to décor, your shared passions, quirks, and inside jokes are what will make your day feel intimate and truly yours. 3. Include Personal Mementos and Shared Momeries Sometimes the most meaningful moments are tucked into the smallest details. Including Personal mementos—those small but mighty tokens of your relationship—can bring powerful emotional depth to your day. Display that ticket stub from the concert where you first held hands. Incorporate the book you were reading when you met, or showcase a framed copy of the first text one of you sent after your first date. Every part of your wedding should bloom with meaning. You can also bring these memories into guest experiences. Consider having a Memory station or “our story” table that visually walks your guests through the milestones you’ve shared, from handwritten notes to inside jokes and photos of your adventures. These personal touches don’t just decorate a space, they tell a story, create connection, and remind everyone why they’re there celebrating you. 4. Choose Music That Tells Your Story Your wedding playlist shouldn’t be about what’s trending, it should be about the Soundtrack of your story. Think about the music you’ve made memories to: songs from concerts you’ve attended, road trip anthems, or the one that played during your first dance in the living room. This is the time to bring those songs back to life. We’ve seen couples surprise their guests with a voice recording that plays before the ceremony, sharing personal reflections or promises. Others have asked friends to sing live during the ceremony or choreographed a flash mob with their bridal party. • A Bride's Guide to a Stress-Free Wedding Day

Radiate with confidence on your special day! Your wedding day is one of the most exciting, emotional, and unforgettable moments of your life. But let’s be honest, it can also bring a few nerves along for the ride. Between the final details, the buzzing energy, and all the emotions that come with marrying your person, it’s easy to feel a little overwhelmed. "Don't worry, it's something that happens to most brides" At Next Chapter Weddings, we’ve been lucky to walk alongside so many couples on this once-in-a-lifetime day. And we can tell you this: becoming a stress-free bride isn’t about controlling every single moment. It’s about preparing your heart, your mindset, and your space so that you can actually feel present and enjoy every second. If you're looking for ways to stay grounded and calm throughout your day, here are my personal go-to tips that truly make a difference 5 Tips on How to be a Stress-free Bride on your Big Day Don't let stress ruin your wedding day. 1. Ease Into the Day with a Morning Just for You Don’t rush into the chaos. Your wedding morning should feel like a breath of fresh air, not a sprint to the altar. Whether you journal with a cup of coffee, throw on a playlist that makes you smile (mine would definitely have some Beyoncé), or do a quick meditation, make space for something that centers you. Set the tone early, and you’ll carry that calm through the rest of the day. 2. Trust the Team You've Built (Seriously, Let Go!) You’ve done the planning. You’ve made the decisions. Now it’s time to trust your vendors and let them do what they do best. If you’ve hired a planner like the team at Next Chapter Weddings, you’re in amazing hands. Letting go of control might feel scary, but it’s the only way to actually enjoy your day instead of managing it. Your only job? Get married and have the time of your life. 3. Schedule a Few Mini Time-Outs Wedding days can feel like they’re over in the blink of an eye. Build in a few intentional pauses. Maybe sneak away with your partner for five minutes after the ceremony, or find a quiet moment to breathe and just feel all the joy around you. These little breaks are like emotional espresso shots—quick but powerful. 4. Embrace the Unexpected (Yes, Even the Weird Stuff) Something will go slightly off-script. A flower might wilt. Your ring bearer might lose his shoe. But here’s the thing: none of that can take away from the magic of the moment you say “I do.” Keep your eyes on the heart of the day—you’re marrying your person. That’s the real win. Focus on what matters the most. 5. Keep Your Inner Circle Close Choose your wedding day crew like you’d choose your apocalypse team. You want people who calm you down, make you laugh, and hand you snacks when your blood sugar crashes. Bridesmaids, family, your planner—they’re your emotional safety net. Lean on them when you need to, and let them lift you up. Final Thoughts: Stay Present and Celebrate Your Way If there’s one final tip I’d give every bride, it’s this: soak it all in. Look around. Feel the love. Breathe in the laughter, the hugs, the clink of glasses. The day goes fast, but your memories of it will last a lifetime, especially if you’re present enough to make them. And if you're still deep in planning mode and want to make sure your day runs smoothly? Let the pros handle the stress. The incredible team at Next Chapter Weddings is known for helping every stress-free bride actually feel stress-free. From timelines to tissues, we've got you covered—so you can just enjoy the magic. Now you're a stress-free bride, ready to rock your big day to perfection!

  • How to Plan the Best Engagement Party: A Step-by-Step Guide for Brides

Your First Big Celebration Starts Now! First off – Congratulations on your engagement! Now that you’ve said "yes," it’s time to celebrate with your closest family and friends. Your engagement party is the first big event leading up to your wedding, and it’s your chance to set the tone for all the fun that lies ahead. Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate gathering or a lively celebration, this guide will help you plan an engagement party that’s memorable for you, your fiancé, and your guests. A Guide to the Best Engagement Party of Your Life: Top 10 Tips! 1. Start with the Basics: the When and the Where It’s always good to start with the basics. One of the first steps to planning your engagement party is locking in the date and location. Once those are set, everything else falls into place more easily. Ideally, you’ll want to celebrate within a few months of the proposal. While that “just engaged” excitement is still buzzing! Pick a date that works well not just for you two, but also for the VIPs in your life (you know, the people you absolutely want there to share in the joy and raise a glass with you.). Then, think about the kind of atmosphere you’re going for. Are you picturing a cozy brunch with mimosas, an elegant garden party, or a candlelit evening with cocktails and your favorite playlist? Your venue should reflect that vibe, whether it’s your parents’ backyard, a favorite restaurant, or a beautiful little event space. The goal? A space where you and your fiancé can celebrate comfortably with the people you love most. 2. Define Your Guest List Unlike the larger guest list for your wedding day, your engagement party guest list is typically much more intimate. This is your chance to celebrate your recent engagement in a personal setting, surrounded by those closest to you—immediate family, close friends, and perhaps a few others who've played a significant role in your relationship. Navigating the guest list can be tricky, especially if you’re planning a larger wedding but want this celebration to be smaller and low-key. A simple rule to follow is to invite only those who will also be attending your wedding. This keeps the event intimate and ensures you're sharing this milestone with the people who matter most. 3. Pick a Theme that Reflects You and Your Fiancé The theme doesn’t have to be elaborate, but it should reflect you as a couple. Are you both adventure lovers? Consider a travel-themed party. Are you foodies? A gourmet dinner party might be perfect. Having a theme helps guide your decisions on decorations, food, and activities, making the planning process smoother and more cohesive. 4. Delegate Tasks to Keep the Stress at Bay As the bride, you’ve got a lot on your plate, so don’t hesitate to ask for help. Delegation is your best friend when it comes to planning an engagement party. Enlist family members and friends to take on specific tasks, so you can focus on enjoying the moment. Invitations: Have someone you trust design and send out the invites, whether they’re physical or digital. Decorations: Assign a friend with an eye for design to handle the décor, ensuring it aligns with your theme and vision. Catering/Food: Whether you’re going DIY or hiring a caterer, delegate the menu planning to someone who knows your taste and can cater to any dietary needs. Entertainment: If you’re planning to have live music, games, or other entertainment, assign this to someone who can coordinate and make sure everything runs smoothly. Photography: Don’t forget to capture the memories! Ask a friend with a good camera or hire a photographer to take candid shots throughout the event. 5. Create a Warm and Inviting Atmosphere You want your engagement party to feel welcoming and special. Start with the décor—think about adding personal touches like photos of you and your fiancé, candles, or flowers to create a cozy, romantic vibe. Lighting plays a big role in setting the mood as well. If you’re hosting an evening event, string lights or candles can add warmth. For a daytime party, make sure the venue is filled with natural light to keep things bright and cheerful. 6. Plan Activities that Encourage Guests to Mingle While the focus is on celebrating you and your fiancé, it’s important that your guests have a great time too. Plan activities that encourage mingling and keep the energy up. Here are a few ideas: Icebreakers: Simple games like "How Well Do You Know the Couple?" can get people talking and laughing. Photo Booth: Set up a small photo booth with props related to you and your fiancé’s interests. It’s a fun way to capture memories and get guests interacting. Toasts and Speeches: Encourage your family and friends to share short, heartfelt toasts. These can be spontaneous or planned, but they add a personal touch to the event. Music and Dancing: Whether you hire a DJ or create a playlist, music sets the mood. Keep the tunes light and upbeat, with a mix that appeals to all ages. 7. Make it Special for You and Your Fiancé This day is all about celebrating your love and commitment, so make sure it’s extra special for you and your fiancé. Here’s how: Personalized Touches: Incorporate elements that are unique to your relationship, like your favorite songs, foods, or even inside jokes. Memory Lane: Create a slideshow or a memory wall with photos from your relationship’s journey. This adds a nostalgic touch and gives guests a glimpse into your love story. Gift from the Hosts: If you’re planning your own party, consider gifting yourselves something small but meaningful to mark the occasion, like a scrapbook or a framed photo from the event. 8. Wrap it Up with Thoughtful Favors As the party winds down, sending your guests off with a small token of appreciation is a thoughtful way to thank them for their support. The key is to keep it simple and meaningful—something that ties back to your theme or love story. Personalized favors often make the most memorable keepsakes. Consider items that reflect you and your fiancé’s shared interests. For example, if you both love wine, mini bottles with personalized labels could be a perfect fit. A small note explaining why the wine is special to you as a couple would add a personal touch. For a seasonal or location-specific theme, your favors can reflect the time of year or your surroundings. For a summer engagement party, consider local honey or homemade jam, while a winter event could feature cozy hot cocoa kits. Alternatively, creative options like custom seed packets or artisanal spices are great for couples with unique interests. Handmade or locally crafted items, like a small candle from a local artisan or a favorite snack, can also bring a special, personal touch. Whatever you choose, make sure the favor feels authentic to your relationship. 9. Capture the Moments You’ll want to remember this special day, so make sure someone is in charge of capturing all the important moments. Whether you hire a professional or ask a talented friend, having beautiful photos or a video of your engagement party will allow you to relive the memories for years to come. 10. Final Thoughts: Keep it Stress-Free and Fun Remember, your engagement party is just the beginning of your wedding journey, so it should be enjoyable and relatively stress-free. With the right planning, delegation, and attention to detail, you’ll be able to create a celebration that’s as unique and special as you and your fiancé. Keep the focus on love, laughter, and togetherness, and you’ll set the perfect tone for the celebrations to come. Ready, Set, Party! With your engagement party behind you and those memories still fresh, it’s time to focus on the next exciting chapter: planning your wedding! • A Downtown Houston Wedding Story: Serena & Hector's "Speakeasy Love"

Serena & Hector's Downtown Houston Wedding | Eddy Herrera Photography A Speakeasy Romance with a Downtown Twist There’s something wildly romantic about blending old-school charm with modern city vibes and Serena and Hector pulled it off flawlessly. Think vintage speakeasy style meets the heart of downtown: twinkling lights, towering buildings, and a love story that felt like it belonged on the silver screen. It was intimate, bold, and full of personality—just like the couple themselves. From the nervous giggles to the heartfelt vows echoing beneath skyscrapers, every moment of their wedding carried that moody-glam magic you only get when classic romance meets contemporary edge. Being part of the Next Chapter Weddings team means we get a front-row seat to love stories of all kinds... and Serena and Hector’s day? It was one of those unforgettable celebrations that makes you fall in love with love all over again. "Nothing beats witnessing a love story bloom, and come to life on a Wedding day!" Saturday, September 28, 2024, brought clear skies and a warm, sunny afternoon, setting the stage for a nearly perfect evening. After months of meticulous planning and collaboration with countless individuals, vendors, and teams, the day finally arrived. Moment of truth: Serena prepares to walk down the aisle with her dad A Wedding Venue within Downtown Houston Nestled in the heart of Houston, Lawless Spirits & Kitchen offered a unique blend of vintage charm and modern elegance. With its inviting atmosphere, creative cocktails, and delectable cuisine, this venue creates an unforgettable celebration. The venue’s exotic and luxurious decor boasts a tasteful Art Deco design. As if slipping into a 1920’s speakeasy, I was left intrigued and comfortable in the warm ambiance of the space. Tremendous metal light fixtures, gold bead curtains, extensive wooden bar, and softly lit nooks all worked together seamlessly to achieve this goal. Party-Ready: Dressing Up the Reception Area The reception area was already set with tables, chairs and linens. Upon arrival, our team (NCW) set to work decorating. The silk garlands and bouquets from Something Borrowed Blooms were a pleasant surprise! As we unboxed the floral arrangements we were greeted by a pleasant aroma, no doubt intentionally applied by the florist. The silk flowers were some of the best quality our team had witnessed, and it had us all considering this option more often for future events! Serena & Hector First Dance as Husband and Wife The delicate blues and whites were joined by a name place setting for each guest - a painted field of flowers. In addition, an “order of event” set of cards describing the drinks, dinner, and dessert that were to come, completed the place setting in a trio of pink, blue, and green. Serena and Hector had obviously put a lot of thought into the seating of their guests, and we were able to execute the plan to its completion. Our presence in the reception space also allowed us to field any questions from vendors or family. The meetings between our Lead Coordinator, Brandi, and the couple ensured that we were the knowledgeable gatekeepers of all information. You may or may not be surprised by how many questions are asked on a wedding day! With each inquiry I am able to respond to, I am reminded that somewhere closeby, the bride is relaxed and has her feet propped up, drink in hand… unbothered. Isn’t that how it should be?! We think so. Prepping the Ceremony Site for "I Do" Once we put the finishing touches on the reception area, we moved on to the ceremony site. The outdoor patio, which was the setting for Serena and Hector's ceremony, was breathtaking. We were surrounded on all sides by Houston’s towering skyscrapers. The life of the city played into the setting but never outshined what took place on the patio. The greenery wall, twinkle lights, and chiavari chairs were all provided by the venue. A few floral pieces were added, and within a matter of minutes the ceremony site was complete! A Beautiful Moment: Serena & Hector Exchange Vows With Every Arrival, the Venue Felt More Alive It wasn’t long before the wedding venue was bustling with the arrival of Hector and Serena’s guests. When our team is booked with a Lead Coordinator and Assistant, as it was with this wedding, we are able to cover more ground. While Brandi stayed with the bride and the wedding party, I was stationed to welcome guests, direct traffic, and communicate with the DJ regarding where we were on the timeline. The results - an effortless official start to a fabulous evening. Next Chapter Weddings Carefully Plans Every Little Step When weddings are your life, as they are for us, you know what questions to ask in planning meetings to make sure no detail is overlooked. A simple point can make a huge impact! For example, where would the couple prefer to stand in relation to the audience? For Serena and Hector, they chose to stand opposite to their family so their faces could be seen by their loved ones; groom's family on the right, groom on the left… bride’s family on the left, bride on the right. This practice is becoming more and more commonplace because it just makes sense! It was particularly important to our bride and groom to have all communication in both English and Spanish to make certain every guest could fully appreciate this special occasion. They sought out a bilingual officiant, DJ, and Emcee. It was particularly helpful to have a bilingual Emcee when our Mariachi band arrived! The Emcee introduced the group with all the gusto a troop deserves, and they proceeded to serenade the couple during dinner hour. The Venue & Staff Absolutely Delivered! The reception is where the Kitchen, of Lawless Spirits & Kitchen, truly shines. The wedding couple was able to work closely with the culinary team to design a menu that suited their tastes, including gourmet appetizers and mouth watering entrees. And wedding cake was not the only dessert to be had that night! A flight of delectable treats made their rounds following dinner. The bar was a highlight, featuring handcrafted cocktails, personalized to fit the theme of the wedding. All areas of the venue were appropriately staffed, and all guests were served promptly and graciously. I particularly appreciated the venue’s lead liaison. Her bright smile and attentiveness won me over instantly, and she continued to impress as everything “venue related” was taken care of without prompting from our team. They were completely on point! No stress. Just joy. That’s when you know it all came together perfectly. As coordinators we were able to provide the family of the bride and groom the freedom to enjoy the celebration, free from responsibility, from start to finish. It was a delight to see this first hand! As the evening progressed, the parents of Hector and Serena were able to dine and dance, all while congratulating these two special people in their lives on their next chapter. And back to the Ah-mazing patio - it was a breezy get-away spot during the reception, a quiet place to enjoy a cocktail, and a great backdrop for photos! Following the ceremony, the space was swiftly transformed. The photographer, Eddy Herrea, took full advantage of the expanse as he proceeded with a lineup of family photos. The incredible DJ, A.M. Productions, was also the Photobooth vendor. His team quickly set up the Photobooth and stayed for the full event to assist guests. It Was a Day to Remember As I reflect on all that took place that day, and the small part I played in it, I am brought back to the love between Serena and Hector. It is genuine. It exudes happiness. It creates a soft glow in my heart as I picture him kneeling before her, swapping her fancy high heels for equally fancy bedazzled high top tennis shoes. How lucky am I that I got to be there for them?! They were a perfect couple. It was a perfect space. And I will forever be amazed by this downtown Houston wedding scene. Hope to see you on the next post! Dream It. Plan It. Live It! • Writing Your Own Wedding Vows: A Personalized Guide to Expressing Your Love

Wedding vows highlight a couple's love, commitment, and promises for their future together! Writing your own wedding vows? That’s a big moment. It’s one of the most intimate, personal things you can do on the way to your big day, and honestly, it’s a chance to say something that truly reflects you and your partner. This isn’t about memorizing some classic vows or trying to be perfect—it’s about speaking from the heart. Your vows should speak directly to the person you're about to spend forever with. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the art of writing personalized wedding vows that feel real, meaningful, and 100% you. I’ve got plenty of ideas and inspiration to help you put those feelings into words and create promises that really resonate. Tips for Writing Wedding Vows 1. Reflect on Your Relationship Before you start writing your own personalized wedding vows, take some time to reflect on your relationship. Think about the moments that have defined your journey together, the challenges you've overcome, and the dreams you share for the future. Consider what your partner means to you and the qualities that you admire most about them. These reflections will serve as the foundation for your unique wedding vows, guiding you as you articulate your promises for each other. 2. Consider Your Values and Beliefs Your wedding vows are a declaration of your shared values and beliefs as a couple. Think about what marriage means to you and the principles that you want to uphold in your life together. Whether it's honesty, trust, compassion, or adventure, incorporating your values into your vows will give them deeper significance and resonance. It’s all about the two of you — Focus on each other, your love, and the promises you’re making for the future. 3. Express Your Promises At the heart of your vows are the promises you make to your partner, your commitment to love, support, and cherish them for a lifetime. These are not just words, they are the foundation of your future together. As you write your vows, try to be specific about the ways you will honor these promises. Think about the little and big things that show your dedication, whether it is supporting their dreams, being their rock during tough times, or making them smile every day. The more personal and clear your promises are, the more meaningful they will feel. This is your chance to make a lasting impact with the words that will shape your future together. 4. Share Your Love Story Your wedding vows are an opportunity to share your unique love story with your partner and your guests. Consider incorporating anecdotes or memories that capture the essence of your relationship and the journey you've taken together. Whether it's the moment you first knew you were in love, or a special experience that brought you closer together. Sharing these moments will add depth and authenticity to your vows. Perfect words don't matter, just be honest and speak from the heart 5. Include Personalized Touches Adding personalized touches to your wedding vows can make them even more meaningful. Consider incorporating inside jokes, quotes from your favorite songs or movies, or references to shared experiences that are unique to your relationship. These personal touches will not only make your vows more memorable but also remind you of the laughter and joy that you share as a couple. 6. Mention a Loved One Who Help Sparked Your Love Story Incorporating a mention of a loved one who played a significant role in your love story can add depth and meaning to your peronalized wedding vows. Whether it's a friend who introduced you, a family member who offered guidance and support, or a mentor who inspired you to be a better partner, acknowledging their influence can be a touching tribute to the community that surrounds and uplifts you. Consider sharing a heartfelt thank you or a special memory that highlights their contribution to your relationship. By honoring the people who have helped shape your love story, you not only celebrate your bond as a couple but also recognize the interconnectedness of your lives with those you hold dear. If it makes your partner smile, it’s always worth it! 7. Include Humor Adding a touch of humor to your wedding vows can lighten the mood and showcase the playful side of your relationship. Consider incorporating inside jokes, funny anecdotes, or lighthearted promises that reflect your shared sense of humor. Whether it's a witty remark about your partner's quirks or a playful vow to always laugh at each other's bad jokes, injecting humor into your vows can bring smiles to your faces and warmth to your hearts. Just remember to keep it light and tasteful, ensuring that your humor complements the sincerity and love that underpins your vows. After all, laughter is not only the best medicine but also a beautiful ingredient in a lasting marriage. 8. Speak from the Heart Above all, your personalized wedding vows should come from the heart. Don't worry about trying to impress your guests or following a traditional format. Instead, focus on expressing your true feelings and emotions in your own words. Speak honestly and authentically, letting your love for your partner shine through in every word you say. And do not forget to say "I love you" Don’t overthink it— the best vows come naturally. FAQs About Wedding Vows How long should my wedding vows be? The length of wedding vows can vary depending on personal preference, cultural traditions, and the overall tone of the ceremony. Generally, wedding vows typically range from one to three minutes in length when spoken aloud. This translates to roughly around 100 to 300 words per person. Short and sweet vows might consist of a few heartfelt sentences expressing love, commitment, and promises to each other. Longer vows may include more personal anecdotes, reflections on the relationship, and specific promises made to each other. Ultimately, the most important aspect of wedding vows is that they are sincere, heartfelt, and meaningful to the couple exchanging them. Do we have to write our own vows? No, you're not obligated to write your own vows. Many couples choose to use traditional vows provided by their officiant or religious institution. However, writing your own vows can add a personal and meaningful touch to your ceremony. Do our vows have to be the same length? No, your vows don't have to be the same length. Each person's vows should reflect their own feelings and promises to their partner. Should we share our vows with each other before the wedding? Some couples prefer to keep them a surprise until the ceremony, while others feel more comfortable sharing them in advance. Do we need to memorize our wedding vows? Memorizing your vows is optional. Some couples prefer to memorize them for a more intimate and personal delivery, while others feel more comfortable reading them from a written copy. Choose whichever option feels right for you. Enhancing your written vows with cohesive stationery that aligns with your overall wedding design adds a personal touch to the ceremony, should you choose this option. Can we just personalize the traditional vows? Yes, you can personalize traditional vows to make them more meaningful to you as a couple. You can add personal anecdotes, promises, or sentiments that reflect your relationship while still honoring the traditional structure. Should we practice saying our vows beforehand? It's a good idea to practice saying your vows beforehand, especially if you're memorizing them. This will help you feel more confident and relaxed during the ceremony. You can practice together or with a trusted friend or family member. Having someone else proofread for you is always a good idea. What if we aren’t good at public speaking? It's normal to feel nervous about saying your vows in front of a crowd. Take deep breaths, speak slowly and clearly, and focus on your partner. Remember, this is a moment to celebrate your love, and your guests are there to support you. Always remember that your vows are your love in words One Last Bit of Advice... • How to Choose the Perfect Wedding Venue

Kaysea & Tommy's Sandlewood Manor Wedding, TX | Emily Michelle Photography Starting Your Wedding Venue Search Let’s be honest, finding the wedding venue can feel like a big deal (because it is!). It sets the tone for your entire day and is often one of the first major decisions you’ll make in the planning process. At Next Chapter Weddings, we’ve walked alongside so many couples here in Houston as they searched for a space that truly feels like them. Whether you're dreaming of a romantic garden ceremony, a sleek downtown soirée, or something in between, we’re here to help you navigate the options with confidence and clarity. Below, we’re sharing our top tips to help you choose a venue that fits your guest list, style, and vision 1. Start With Your Guest List Size Before you fall in love with a venue’s chandeliers or sunset views, take a step back and look at your guest list. Having a general idea of how many people you’re inviting will help narrow down your options right away. A space that feels cozy for 80 wedding guests might feel overcrowded with 150, or too empty for 30. Kaysea & Tommy's Sandlewood Manor Wedding, TX | Final Guest Count 150 Think about the kind of experience you want to create—an intimate dinner under twinkle lights? A lively party with a packed dance floor? Your guest count is key to making sure the wedding venue you choose fits the vibe, flows comfortably, and keeps everyone happy from ceremony to send-off. 2. Think About Your Wedding Style Close your eyes and picture your day. Are you exchanging vows beneath towering oak trees, celebrating in a sleek downtown loft, or dancing the night away inside a warm, wood-beamed barn? Your wedding venue should reflect the overall style and atmosphere you’re dreaming of. Whether your vision leans rustic, modern, romantic, or a little bit of everything, the space you choose will set the tone. Here in Houston, we’ve loved working with venues like Bella Moon Barn, an ideal pick for couples who want that mix of countryside charm and refined elegance. When your wedding venue complements your style, every detail from florals to your dress feels more cohesive. It becomes more than just a backdrop. It becomes part of your love story. Pick a wedding venue that best fits your love story! 3. Consider the Logistics While it’s easy to get swept up in the look and feel of a wedding venue, everything that happens behind-the-scenes matter just as much. Think about parking availability, accessibility for elderly guests, and whether the location offers nearby accommodations for out-of-town friends and family. Another important factor to consider is what the venue provides as part of the package. Some venues offer everything you need, from in-house catering and rentals to staff services, making it easier for you to coordinate. On the other hand, some venues are more of a blank canvas, giving you the freedom to bring in your own vendors for catering, decor, and entertainment. Both options have their pros and cons. It all depends on how involved you want to be in the details of your wedding planning. Taking time to think through the logistics early on can save you stress later and help your wedding day flow more smoothly. Smooth wedding start with smart planning 4. Location is Everything The location and setting of your wedding venue isn’t just about the beautiful scenery. It affects everything from your guests' travel plans to their overall experience. If you're staying local in Houston, consider how easy it is for guests to get there, where they’ll park, and whether nearby accommodations are available. On the flip side, if you’re leaning toward a destination wedding or a more tucked-away venue, think about what makes that location worth the trip. Whether it’s a breathtaking view, a meaningful family property, or a venue with rich history, the right location adds something unforgettable to your celebration. 5. Don’t Forget Your Budget It’s easy to fall head over heels for a wedding venue, but before you sign on the dotted line, make sure it fits comfortably within your budget. Keep in mind that the venue cost is just one part of the equation—decorations, rentals, catering, and even transportation for guests can all add up quickly. To avoid any surprises, get clear on what's included in the venue’s pricing and factor in the extra expenses from the start. A venue that feels perfect but stretches your finances could lead to stress down the road. Stick to your budget, and you’ll have more room to focus on the things that matter most to you. It's time to find your Perfect Wedding Venue! Take the Next Step Toward Your Perfect Wedding Venue Choosing the perfect wedding venue is one of the most important steps in your wedding planning journey. From considering your guest list size and wedding style to accounting for logistics, location, and your budget, each detail plays a role in finding the ideal setting for your big day. The right one not only reflects your personal style but ensures your guests have an unforgettable experience. Ready to find your dream wedding venue?
